I require a Global Commodity Manager - Steel that can implement a Global Purchasing Strategy as part of the new global procurement function for my client a world leader who produce quality capital equipment.

My client is a Global organisation and 3rd largest in the world within the industry and due to continuous growth they now have this exciting new role.
A diversified global manufacturer and with projected net sales of approximately $7 billion dollars the future is looking positive. They are an organisation that invests in their staff and believe in succession planning.
The Role
The position of Global Commodity Manager will lead global strategy development and support regional implementation of the steel program. You will be critical in developing commodity leadership, coordinating supplier relationships and continuously improving technical capabilities as well as being a pivotal link between global procurement and business unit supply management and product development.
Responsibilities
Provide commodity leadership in helping to create and implement a plan for building and maintaining a competitive advantage in the assigned commodity. Identify, develop, and implement effective global supply chain strategies to support the commitment to build a competitive advantage in supply chain.
Develop a detailed knowledge of the local business arrangements currently in place for purchasing of the commodities. Understand and communicate key drivers for each business unit, including current challenges, constraints etc.
Provide global and regional market information on the commodity, current and projected requirements, and information on current performance.
Support and contribute to the selection of potential providers, using local, regional and global knowledge to ensure reliability of supply of high-quality components & systems.
Coordinate strategic sourcing and product engineering efforts to maximize the development of a robust supply chain with materials, processes and/or components that improve reliability, manufacturability, and cost and product integrity.
Ensure there is an effective communication process with the supply chain, and there are clear yet simple processes avoiding information overload from different regional and global commodity leaders. Ensure global process is communicated simply and without overlap.
Coordinate efforts to reduce commodity and process complexity.
Contribute to performance evaluation of suppliers.
Contribute to measuring success, including savings, improved delivery and simplified processes.
Education
A bachelor degree in a technical discipline is required, MBA preferred and you must have strong technical and process management skills.
Exposure to disciplines such as Total Quality Management, Six Sigma, Lean manufacturing, DFSS or demand flow technology is a plus.
