Our client is a major 3PL business throughout the UK and Europe. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a General Manager to manage and lead the Runcorn site and associated out-bases. Reporting to the Sector operations Director for Hazardous Bulk the role will involve the management of a multi customer bulk chemical logistics operation. Contract development, customer relationship management and financial acumen are key skills for the role along with the ability to lead teams and work within a unionised environment.
Key responsibilities of the role will include:
*Compiling, agreeing and managing budgets and business plans where appropriate. *Managing the property on behalf of our client, including the return on assets employed and facilities management. *Monitoring financial performance, implementing corrective actions where appropriate and maximising the contribution for the business. *Managing the customer and supplier base for the site and collecting debt in a timely manner. *Identifying and recommending business development opportunities. *Ensuring operational plans are developed and implemented to ensure achievement of business objectives. *Ensuring that SLAs are agreed with the customer and then met. *Undertaking a competitor analysis in the relevant sector/market, including pricing and resource availability. *Developing and managing real relationships with customers at all levels. *Negotiating and re-negotiating contract terms in line with commercial propositions. *Exploring and developing new opportunities with the current customer base. *Reviewing and analysing contract
performance with customers, recommending and initiating improvement plans where appropriate. *Ensuring that customers are kept fully informed about issues that affect contract performance. *Actively seeking new customers to complement and improve the existing business mix. *Providing input to commercial propositions for new and existing customers in conjunction with the commercial department. *Preparing commercial propositions for new and existing customers in conjunction with the commercial departments. *Management of the in-house vehicle workshop.
Candidates will need to possess the following experience, skills and attributes:
*Proven management experience within a 3PL environment. *Proven experience of managing a 100+ people site. *Experience of managing PandL. and of both open and closed book accounts. *Experience of management of a transport fleet. *Experience of negotiations with customers and Trade Unions. *Experience of operating within a trade union environment. *Knowledge of Health and Safety best practice. *Numerate and financially aware. *Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. *Project Management skills. *Proven ability to develop the skills of the team. *Comfortable in dealing with Management teams at all levels, both in house and the customer. *CPC National - CPC International would also be desirable.
