Commercially focused, NHSBSA has responsibility for transaction values totaling £18bn, £144m operating expenditure and 2,900 staff.NHSBSA's broad remit includes major NHS programmes including; prescriptions payments, NHS dental payments and essential health management initiatives. Other key business areas include procurement, supply chain management and pensions administration. Since assuming its current role in April 2006, NHSBSA has made significant improvements in service delivery, ensuring that demanding performance targets are set and then achieved.
With a dynamic and energetic board now in place, NHSBSA is now seeking to add to the senior management team a first class senior management professional to deliver transformational change as MANAGING DIRECTOR, NHS PENSIONS.
Committed to the delivery of service excellence and value for money for the taxpayer, you will lead a 400 strong team, implementing essential changes in delivering a service which achieves NHSBSA's demanding objectives. You will manage a complex stakeholder framework to provide 1.4m NHS Pension Scheme members with the service that will support their lifestyle and career planning through to retirement.
The job role: MANAGING DIRECTOR, NHS PENSIONS
Reporting to: CHIEF OPERTAING OFFICER, NHSBSA
Direct reports: 5 x FUNCTIONAL HEADS OF DEPT.
Key tasks:
- Lead the programme to deliver transformational change in an organisation where the highest standards of performance remain paramount at all times
- Review and assess efficiency of current processes and systems, identifying and implementing change where required to improve long term service delivery
- Evaluate current sourcing policies and contracts, undertaking bench-marking exercises to identify and then deliver business performance improvements
- Produce the Strategic and Annual Business Plans, incorporating demanding yet achievable performance, service delivery and stakeholder management targets
- Produce robust and appropriate management information as required, identifying key trends and enabling informed decision-making
- Contribute actively to the long term development of NHSBSA as part of a dynamic and energetic senior management team

Candidate profile:
- A proven change agent, thrives in organisations where change is essential and delivering business performance through people is key
- Extensive senior level experience, probably within a heavily regulated services sector (possibly though not essentially financial services related)
- An inspirational leader with a demonstrable track record of motivating colleagues and delivering performance through people within challenging environments
- Proven ability to manage highly skilled multi-functional and specialist teams, utilising complex and diverse management information to inform decisions
- Experience of major contracts / process outsourcing, able to review and assess long term business requirements and implement required change
- Able to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders at all levels (inc. DoH, external service providers, unions etc.)
- Clear, absolute personal integrity and commitment to service delivery of the highest quality
